Tulum Food Guide: Where to Eat After a Beach Day
Tulum Food Guide: Where to Eat After a Beach Day
The sun’s going down, you’re salty, sandy, and hungry. Whether you spent the day at the beach, in a cenote, or just wandering around town, Tulum has some great spots to grab a solid meal without needing to dress up or plan too much.
Here are our go-to places to eat well after a day in the sun — from quick tacos to special dinners under the jungle canopy.
Las Mestizas
For traditional Yucatán dishes
Take a short drive to town for some of the best Yucatán flavors around. Their poc chuc (citrus-marinated grilled pork) and tortillas de chaya hit the spot every time. It’s casual, no reservations — just good home-style cooking in a shaded backyard space. Perfect for a late lunch or early dinner.
La Chiapaneca
For classic tacos in town
If you want tacos al pastor and don’t want to overthink it, this is your place. It’s busy, fast, and full of flavor. A few pesos per taco, freshly shaved from the spit, with all the salsas laid out to build it your way. Go early — it gets crowded.
La Negra Tomasa
For seafood with a little party
Think aguachile, shrimp tacos, ceviche towers, and cocktails — all with loud music and colorful vibes. You’ll find a mix of locals and tourists here, and it’s great for groups or anyone craving mariscos after the beach. Bonus: they serve late and have solid drinks.
Mestixa
For something fun and different
Mexican-Asian fusion in a relaxed setting. Try the cochinita dumplings or the shrimp tacos with ponzu mayo. It’s creative but casual — ideal when you’re tired of the usual and want to share a few plates with friends. Sundays are for bao buns.
Arca
For jungle fine dining
If you’re in the mood to splurge after a long beach day, Arca delivers. Wood-fired everything, seasonal ingredients, and some of the best cocktails in town. Expect a beautiful, open-air setting and a menu that changes constantly. Reservations recommended.
Hartwood
For a Tulum classic
No electricity in the kitchen, just wood fire and the freshest ingredients they can find each day. The menu changes daily, and the vibe is effortlessly cool. If you can get a reservation (or line up early), it’s worth it. Ideal for that “last dinner in Tulum” feeling.
