Tulum Music Festival Season: What to Know Before You Go
December marks the beginning of festival season in Tulum. The town starts buzzing, the parties multiply, and logistics can get tricky fast. Whether you’re coming for one night or planning a whole trip around the music scene, here’s what you should know before heading out.
Tickets vs Tables
General admission is the go-to for solo travelers or anyone looking to jump between venues. You’ll be part of the crowd and move as you like.
Tables are ideal if you’re with a group or want a more premium night. You’ll have your own space, VIP bathrooms, faster entry, and bottle service – basically no lines! Not every event requires a table, but for bigger venues like Zamna, where parties reach over 15,000 people, it’s a huge difference in experience.
If you're not sure which option makes more sense for you, we can help break it down based on the party, your group size, your budget, and what kind of night you're hoping to have.
Avoiding Lines & Traffic
Festival traffic is real — especially for festival venues. What’s normally a 15-minute drive can turn into 2-3 hours if you leave at the wrong time.
Tips:
Arrive early to skip the main rush and actually enjoy the opening sets.
Carpool with someone who is sober driving. There are often checkpoints to ensure people are safely getting around town.
Use private transportation with a set price and pickup times. Having a driver who knows the venue, the back roads, helps avoid the stress of figuring things out at the last-minute – not to mention, door-to-door service is so nice after a long night of dancing
What to Wear
Going to the jungle? BOOTS! Boots or kicks are your best friend. Jungle venues are dirt and rocks, uneven surfaces, and parties go until sunrise. Your body will thank you.
On the beach? If it’s daytime, sandals are fine; you’ll dance barefoot anyways. Going at night? Boots again. It’s a bit more crowded, the stages come out and your toes are better safe than sorry.
Dress comfortably. Tulum Festival Season is very fashionable, but the trends have evolved into fashionably comfortable. When you’re dancing all night from cool beach evening to dewy sunrises, you’ll want to be in something light and fresh.
In your purse? Keep it simple. Sunglasses are a must! Chapstick or tinted lip balm, hand sanitizer, a small charging bank if you can, ear plugs if you like being front and center or backstage, and you’re good to go.
Parties Worth Checking Out
Zamna – Big names, big production – one of the most iconic festivals in the world, born right here in Tulum. Zamna Tulum is more like a marathon, with parties nearly every night in the jungle and on the beach. Here you will meet people from all over the world who truly love music and traveled to Tulum to be in the heart of the jungle.
Day Zero – Legendary jungle party on one of the most sacred cenote lands. Day Zero is like a circus; so many characters, performances, surprises, and delights. You will feel like a kid in a fantasy world. Day Zero is not for the festival-faint-hearted; getting in and out of the venue is a process, and it’s very rugged terrain. Be sure to go with someone who has been before, so you can prepare well and enjoy to the max.
Nômade / Be Tulum Sunset Parties – These are down-to-earth, more intimate parties on the beach with huge names playing to less than a thousand people at sunset. So exclusive, they don’t sell tickets ahead and don’t publish the artist names. Arrive early and expect to be carried away.
Pop-ups and Afters – These one-of-a-kind experiences happen in the moment, and aren’t always announced publicly! Keep an eye on venues like Delek, which often have great artists drop in for day parties on the beach. After parties organically pop up amongst groups, whether together or with new festival friends. Be open to going where the music takes you!
