Best Beaches in Tulum: Playa Paraiso, Soliman Bay & Playa de Akumal.
Tulum is a paradise for beach lovers, with long stretches of soft sand where only the whisper of the turquoise water can be heard. Tulum is on the Caribbean coast of the Yucatan Peninsula and has breathtaking natural beauty. With so many beautiful beaches to choose from, you can relax and sip a cocktail under an umbrella at a full-service beach club, or visit a more remote beach in one of the several nature preserves.
Here are some of the best beaches in Tulum, which is nominated as the world’s leading beach destination this year. If you have a few days of vacation, you can visit them all!
Playa Paraiso
Playa Paraiso is one of the most beautiful beaches in Mexico, which is why it attracts so many visitors every year. This Tulum public beach is one of the largest along the coast, with plenty of room for everyone. This place is perfect for relaxing on the white sand and swimming in the crystal clear water of the Caribbean.
Located inside Parque de Jaguar, one of the world’s largest national parks, you can enter at any one of the eight public beach access points or visit a full-service beach club. We recommend arriving early in the day so you can post up at the spot you like best. You can bring your own beach blanket and cooler and make a day of it or enjoy being served fresh cocktails and seafood at one of the more laidback beach clubs in Tulum. The average minimum spend is 500 pesos on food and drinks. Entry to the national park is $58 pesos.
Soliman Bay
Soliman Bay Beach isn't the type you stumble upon in fancy travel magazines or tourist guides. This true hidden jewel in Riviera Maya has been sort of a secret for as long as we can remember. It's your own private oasis, where you can stroll along the shore, dive into the reef, or just laze under a palm tree.
Although it might not match the width of those Tulum beaches, the real magic happens with the outer reef break. It turns the sea into this serene pool, even when the wind decides to play rough. And that's gold, especially for kids or if you are in the mood for some swim and chill. Soliman Bay is full of cozy spots. It's like living your perfect beach day, over and over again.
Playa de Akumal
Akumal Beach is about a 20 minute drive from downtown Tulum, and is a great option for families and people who want a more casual atmosphere. There are a variety of restaurants and palapa beach bars serving the fresh catch of the day and classic margaritas all day long.
Here you can also see the impressive marine life of the region with sea turtles and fish. Protected by the large reef, the bay has minimal waves so it’s some of the best snorkeling waters (look but don’t touch!). Definitely visit Turtle Bay Café for homemade ice cream and baked goods!
